Basic Tire Services

Have you checked your tires recently?

There are several laws governing car tires in America, and for anyone who drives, that’s a lot to think about for just one part! For example, your tire tread needs to be the right depth, and there are even laws about scrap tires.

How do you know if your tread depth is legal? Try the penny test! If you put a penny on your tire, between the tread blocks, and you can see Lincoln’s head, you have a worn-out tire that would not be considered legal. If you can’t see Lincoln’s head, your tire is still alright. There are other ways to test your tread depth, but the penny test is the easiest one.

As a driver, you’re bound to have bought tires at least once in your life. The current US market for used tires is relatively large, with nearly 30 million used tires being sold each year.

So if you own a car, sooner or later you’re going to need to think about tires. There are four basic tire services you should know about: alignment, balancing, installation/mounting, and rotation. All four are explained in the infographic, so you’ll never be confused about tires again.

Using our handy infographic, you can see the recommended points where you should consider one (or more) of these services. Some depend on mileage, others depend on manufacturer guidelines, or they may need changing once or twice a year. Bookmark our infographic, and you’ll always have a handy resource on the four basic tire services.
